Havana Cafe Introduces Morning Menu

She can’t bring in the tropical breezes or Caribbean setting. But B.J. Hernandez is doing her best to simulate breakfast in Havana with her new morning menu at Havana Cafe.

The new line-up includes breakfast empanadas like the Gaucho ($7.25), filled with Cuban steak, chorizo and Manchego cheese, and the Turista ($6.95), stuffed with ham, cheddar, olives and hard-boiled egg.

Among the egg dishes are bistec con huevos ($13.50), a hearty platter featuring marinated skirt steak topped with two fried eggs and maduros (sweet plantains), as well as your choice of black beans and rice or skillet potatoes. Or try the traditional Spanish tortilla ($8.95), an omelet made with peppers, onions, cheese and potatoes.

And if you’ve got a breakfast sweet tooth, look for papaya raisin loaf ($4.95), guava and cream cheese puff pastry ($5.50) or Spanish donuts coated with cinnamon sugar ($2.50).

The breakfast menu is only available at the restaurant’s Camelback Road, phoenix restaurants az, branch.

Great Peruvian Food in the Valley

Not many people are aware of it, but Peru has one of the world’s great cuisines, drawing inspiration and ingredients from the sea, the mountains and the jungle.

Such treats as the tamal Peruano wrapped in banana leaf, Peruvian ceviche and papas a la Huancaina, the national potato dish smothered with Peruvian cheese and the native aji chile.

There are four Peruvian restaurants in the Valley:

El Farol, at 5534 E. Thomas Road, Phoenix

Rincon Peruano, at 5925 W. Olive Ave. Glendale, and 120 S. Alma School Road in Mesa

And the brand new Contigo Peru,

1245 W. Guadalupe Road (at Alma School), Mesa

Return of the English Muffin

The people have spoken and they want their English muffin back!

La Grande Orange has one of the best az burger in town, the green chile burger.

It was sandwiched by a unique homemade English muffin bun, but recently they replaced it with a squishy supermarket-quality bun that fell apart after two bites. Despite the substitution, the price of the burger remained $12. Not a cool phoenix restaurant az thing to do.

Bob Lynn, LGO founder and president, said that many guests preferred the new bun to the English muffin.

But now it looks like everyone is going to be happy. That’s because Allison Shashok, LGO hospitality’s company projects director, has announced that, “We’ve decided to re-list the English muffin as a burger option on the menu.”

That means you can have the burger your way, with muffin or bun. What a good idea.

RigaTony’s Moves To Tempe

More interesting news for restaurants and phoenix.

After 15 years in Chandler, RigaTony’s Authentic Italian Restaurant is moving to Tempe.

Toward the end of March, it will open on the northeastern corner of McClintock Drive and Warner Road.

The new place has more space, a bigger kitchen and limitless parking, spokeswoman Alyssa Abraham said.

Other changes are coming as well. The restaurant will open an Italian market offering homemade sauces, salad dressing, desserts, salads and fresh pastas.

“We’ve always sold our salad dressing, but we haven’t sold sauces and fresh pasta,” Abraham said.

“Fresh pasta is a brand-new thing; we didn’t have the space to make it here.”

The new spot will have an outdoor terrace to seat 30 to 40, and the restaurant will sell Italian coffee drinks.

It will have a bigger bar, and will still have Tony’s Room, a private dining room for 12 guests. RigaTony’s is currently at Arizona Avenue and Knox Road.

Last Chance To Use Gift Cards at Chloe’s Corner

If you received a gift card for Chloe’s Corner this holiday, you’ll want to use it pretty soon. The Fox Restaurant Concepts eatery at Kierland Commons has been sold.

In a friendly touch, however, Fox will honor all cards through March 31.

The eatery was purchased by former Chloe employee Ashly Young, who says she will continue the overall theme of the diner, though adding new touches to reflect her “personality and style.” phoenix restaurants are a wonderful experience.

Young joined Fox five years ago, working in the full-service bakery within Olive & Ivy during its opening. Expect the chef to add some flair to the casual breakfast, lunch and early dinner offerings such as a hot roast beef sandwich, homemade soup and chopped salad.

Rachael Ray Picks the Best Pizza in America

Arizona pizza just got a little bit of respect. While most people would pick either the cities Chicago or New York as having the best pizza, Rachael Ray Magazine’s March 2010 issue has crowned a Phoenix, Arizona pizza restaurant as best in the whole USA.

The magazine enlisted Adam Kuban and Ed Levine from the website SeriousEats.com to find the best pie in the 50 states. Kuban and Levine flew around America scouting for the best pizza in the country. They divided the country into regions and picked 64 pizzerias to try. Pizzeria Bianco won the top slot.

Co-owner and chef of Pizzeria Bianco, Chris Bianco, is no stranger to accolades. He won the prestigious James Beard Award for Best Chef in the Southwest in 2003 (the Oscar of the restaurant industry). This is not the first time writer Ed Levine has eaten at Pizzeria Bianco. He wrote about it in the New York Times and for his book “Pizza: A Slice of Heaven.”

Why Bianco? “Pizza is all about balance, texture, skill and taste,” Levine says. He adds that Bianco “isn’t trying to replicate Neapolitan pizza,” but that “he’s bringing his own artistry and craftsmanship.” “You can taste how much he cares,” says Levine.

Chris Bianco hasn’t just leant his name to the sign on the building. For over 20 years he has overseen every pizza that came out of his wood-fired pizza. Unfortunately asthma has gotten the better of him and he has had to step away from the oven.

Along with Phoenix pizza, here is the line up of top pizzerias in America according to Levine and Kuban:

Pizzeria Bianco – Phoenix, Arizona
Great Lake Chicago, Illinois
Motorino – New York, New York
Pizzeria Mozza – Los Angeles, California
Verasano’s Pizzeria – Atlanta, Georgia
Dough Pizzeria Napoletana – San Antonio, Texas
Antico Pizza Napoletana – Atlanta, Georgia
Russo’s NY Coal-Fired Pizza – Houston, Texas
